Westerly Corsair for sale in Kent

The Westerly Corsair, designed by Ed Dubois, is regarded as one of the best yachts produced by Westerly. Its a serious cruiser and sails extremely well. It sleeps 8 people and there is lots of space for storage. It has a deep centre cockpit which make you feel very safe and has a huge cockpit locker. The large aft cabin has its own heads and wash basin. The main heads incorporates a shower. A Volvo 2030 diesel engine was fitted in 1997. The hull was treated for osmosis and was Copper-coated in 2017. 

Accommodation

The Westerly Corsair offers 8 berths n two cabins and the saloon. The Forward cabin has a V-berth with two single berths. The forward cabin has a hanging locker and standing headroom with an opening deck hatch. 

Aft of the Forward Cabin is the main heads which has a marine toilet with a vanity unit with a sink with hot and cold pressurised water, shower opening portlight, mirror and storage space.  Opposite the main heads is a large wet locker for waterproofs, lifejackets, tethers etc.

Aft of the Heads is the saloon. It has a dinette seating area converting to one double berth and one single. Behind the chart table is the navigator’s seat and a separate pilot berth, an improved arrangement on the standard Corsair. Above the pilot berth there is an added bosun’s locker and shelves in the same style as the other joinery.

The Saloon dining table easily seats eight people. the saloon has 6ft 5 inch headroom. Teak and holly cabin sole, teach coachroof grab rails, pale green upholstery

Aft of the saloon is the Navigation station with large forward-facing chart table and instrument/switch panel. Copious shelving and stowage is a feature of this boat, having been added when built in the same materials and style as the original joinery.

The galley is a U-shaped and aft to starboard. It has a Spinflo Nelson 1500 2-burner gas hob and oven/grill. Gas hose and regulator last changed November 2020 Crash bar Stainless-steel sink Top-access Isotherm Ge80 refrigerator new 2015.

A door from the saloon leads to the owner’s aft cabin. This cabin has a large double berth athwartships, with good standing room, There is plenty of stowage, portlights coach roof windows and curtains Opening hatch Cabin and reading lights. A door from the cabin leads to the en-suite heads with shower, marine toilet. Hot water is heated by the engine via a calorifier and via a 240v immersion heater. The yacht has a freshwater capacity of 314 litres in 2 tanks.

Companionway steps lead up to the very safe and secure cockpit which has good and cavernous storage locker to starboard. The lowest step incorporates a waste bin

Mechanical and Rigging

Sails and Spars:

Bermudan Masthead sloop rig with Kemp alloy deck stepped mast, alloy boom and spinnaker pole .Stainless steel standing rigging (new 2012) with manual backstay adjuster. Running rigging in serviceable condition and has been changed as required. Fully battened Mainsail slab reefing into stack pack with Ronstan cars and slides,  Furling headsail. Spinnaker pole and whisker pole.

Winches 

  • Sheet winches x 2 Lewmar 44 self-tailing 1 is electric  to hoist the mainsail and trim the genoa.
  • Halyard winches x 2 Barlow 
  • Mainsail winch x 1 Lewmar 16 self-tailing 

Sails:

  • Mainsail, Dacron , 2002 fair condition  Last valeted 2018
  • Genoa, Dacron with foam luff  (Arun) 2011 fair condition, new UV strip 2018. Last valeted 2021

Mechanical Systems:

A Volvo 2030 28hp 3 cylinder Diesel engine was fitted in 1997,shaft driven to a feathering 3 bladed Brunton propeller with Ambassador stripper rope cutter. Morse controls in cockpit. Engine has been serviced by the owner annually, last service April 2023. It has recently had a new exh8ust riser and alternator.. Steel fuel tank with 160L capacity. Cruising speed of  6 knots  and Maximum speed of 7 knots. Through tunnel 4HP Sliepner Bowthruster.

Electrical Systems:

3 x 12v Batteries .2 x 110AH domestic ,1 x 80AH engine, all charged by engine alternator This yacht s also fitted with a solar panel with regulator,, shore power,240V ring main with an immersion heater and 240v battery charger .

History and Construction:

Westerly Corsair built in 1983 by Westerly Yachts from the drawing board of Ed Dubois. has a shoal fin iron keel with a balanced spade rudder with wheel steering. It has a white GRP hull decks and superstructure.  Decks covered in Treadmaster. It has the traditional teak and holly interior.  The hull had a professional osmosis treatment in 2017 and was also copper-coated at the same time. The yacht was last out of the water in August 2023 when her anodes where checked. This yacht has been owned by the current owner since 2011 and is being sold as he has two many boats.
