Broker Remarks

"Clearways of Orwell", a Nicholson 31 is the classic blue water cruiser. This Nicholson offers a great sailing experience with all the additions of up-to-date electronics, a variety of sails and a new Yanmar engine that was fitted in 2018. It has comfortable sized cabins and a detailed wood interior. This yacht is worth an early viewing.

Accommodation

The Nicholson 31 has a traditional layout, finished in varnished teak. The forepeak has a v-berth with fawn-coloured mattresses. From here you have steps and access to the foredeck hatch.

Directly behind the forepeak is the head with two sliding doors wood doors on the forecabin and the saloon's side. It has a manual head with a wash basin and storage opposite and has a stainless-steel 100L holding tank, which is currently not on the boat. 

The Saloon's upholstery is the same fawn-coloured material offering a port side double berth and single starboard berth with a folding table in-between. Fitted with a Pascall Atkey cabin heater and green tartan carpet laid throughout the boat The carpet is not glued, giving easy access to the bilge. The saloon has 6ft of headroom with good space to walk around. 

The galley is equipped with a Neptune 2000 gas cooker with a two-burner hob and grill. The galley is also fitted with a cool box and stainless-stell sink with a freshwater tank that has a capacity of 60L

The aft cabin is located just behind the chart table, which is separated from the saloon by a bulkhead. Single berth with the same fawn fabric. 

Mechanical and Rigging

Sails & Spars
The Nicholson 31 is a Bermudan sloop, masthead rig. The yacht has an alloy Kemp boom, spinnaker pole and keel stepped mast. The stainless-steel standing rigging was last replaced in 2010 and the forestay was changed in 2018. The backstay adjuster is manual and the running rigging was last changed in 2008. The mainsail is slab reefing, fitted with lazyjacks and a Furlex furling headsail, 2018.

Mechanical System:
Powered by a Yanmar 3GM20 20HP, which was new in 2018. 3-cylinder diesel engine with 100 hours as of the 3rd of October 2022. The engine features direct cooling, shaft driven with a fixed 3-blade propellor and morse controls. The steel fuel tank holds 90L and the engine reaches a cruising speed of 5.5kn and a max speed of 6.5kn. The engine was last serviced in 2020 and the shaft bearing was last changed in 2021. The engine was last run, on the 3rd of October 2022.

Electrical Systems:
Fitted with 2 x 12v batteries at 110Amp hour, 1 x domestic and 1 x engine start, approximately 10 years old. Charging via the alternator and via a 240v battery charger. Batteries located under the aft cabin mattress.

History & Construction:
This Nicholson’s hull and superstructure is constructed in white GRP and the deck is made from balsa core GRP. The rudder is transom hung with wooden tiller steering. The Nicholson 31 was built in Gosport 1980 and designed by Camper & Nicholson. The yacht was last ashore and antifouled in April 2022. The anodes were last changed in 2021. Clearways of Orwell has had 2 previous owners, owned by her current owner for past 25 years. The owner is selling due to ill health.
