Owners Comments

Our family have owned and loved Midnight Mood since 1981. I was with my Father in Law. On viewing Midnight Mood in Poole Harbour and sailed with him up until his passing in 2018. Since 2018 we have not been able to use Midnight Mood a great deal, ignoring COVID, and sailing is no longer the same for me and my wife, his daughter, without mt father in law or other members of our sailing team also now no longer with us. So we feel the time is right to move on.

Osmosis

Midnight Mood started to show signs of Osmosis in 2015, we think that scraping off of the anti fouling removed the top skin of the gel coat and hence caused the problem. At the recommendation of Network Yacht Brokers we took Midnight Mood to Swale Marina and between October 2018 to October 2019 she was out of the water and had the full Osmosis treatment of the gel coat being removed and new epoxy coatings being applied along with the keel being shot blasted and epoxy paint

Main Sail Reefing

The main sail can be reefed by raising the sail and then winding down the sail around the boom using the winch handle, so is a boom roller reefing system that does provide a good sail shape and has worked well for us over the years.

The Electrics

We found on Midnight Mood that the addition of many new electrical items that the 2 x 110v batteries were not sufficient and we had to keep running the engine to top up the auxiliary battery. We added a Gel battery which is charged via 2 solar panels on the fore deck. This has worked well over the years and now powers our navigation equipment at the chart table, GPS Navtex, Radar, Chart Plotters Yeoman and Vulcan 9, Radar.

We added a 3 auxiliary battery in the base of the sail locker charged by 2 solar panels of the aft deck. This is used to power the Ray marine auto pilot and the hot / cold pressure water system.

There is also a battery in the bows this is for the bow thruster only and charged via a digital charger connected to the main batteries.

Is there a Shower

We removed the shower option on Midnight Mood, this could be reinstated in the main toilet area. There is a pump in the floor well. Previously there was a circular shower curtain to stand inside and the shower was via a hand held rose pushed onto the taps.

The rigging

All the rigging was replaced by Rigit in November 2020. As a result of my questions at the Southampton boat show on the difficulty I was having with our Profurl head sail reefing system. They came and fitted the new Admiral head sail reefing system and inspected the remaining rigging at the time. This resulted in my changing all the rigging.

Engine

The Thornycroft T90 engine has been maintained over its life with the oil changed every year, fan belts replaced as required etc. The gear box was replaced by MMP Dover in 2017.

Skin Fittings

These have been replaced over time as and when they have come into poor condition. All are in working condition.
