We have just completed the best year that we have had for sales since 2012. Over 70 boats sold in the past 12 months!
That sounds like great news for us, and it should be, but I have to express a little concern that we have noticed that many boat owners seem to want to keep their boats! Consequently the number of available boats is becoming noticeably smaller, and prices are becoming much steadier as a result. In other words a shift is going on from buyers market towards a market in which sellers can expect a little more respect! Now is a great time to sell your boat.
So, if you are thinking of selling your boat, but have perhaps been holding back recently due to a brutal attack on values, then perhaps you can have a rethink. We have noticed, not just from our own experience but from many of our colleagues in the industry, that the number of quality boats for sale generally around the UK is significantly down.
Why?? Well, we have experienced a sustained period of sales to overseas buyers recently, mainly due to the poor strength of the £ against the €. Add to that the fact that new boats sales have been comparatively slow, and have been for some years, and the net result is that there are fewer boats along the UK coast. Political and economical uncertainty might also be contributing, although this is hard to measure.
What we do know is that fewer young people are buying boats, and that the average boat is getting older.
