Broker Remarks

Designed in 1967 as a racing yacht the S&S 34 quickly built up an impressive race record with Ted Heath's "Morning Cloud" winning the 1969 Sydney-Hobart race and Robert Mollard's "Korsar" winning the first Round Ireland Race. The fact that this class of yacht performed so well in competition did not detract from its prospects as a cruising yacht. At the time it was deemed to have outstanding qualities with windward ability particularly in heavy conditions and being spacious below with full 6'+ headroom. Many S&S 34's have completed world cruises and many with husband & wife crews. One completed a double circumnavigation of the globe. Another was sailed by the youngest helm solo. The S&S 34 has the ability to sail very close to the wind in heavy weather and a most useful feature when caught on a lee shore. A well designed hull from one of the top design boards makes for a sea kind sturdy which retains hull speed with reduced sail plan. With 2,400 kgs of lead keel this is a still and sturdy yacht that had stood the test of time. A moderate classic ideal for European waters.
