Bavaria 40 for sale in Kent

This Bavaria 40, built in 2001, offers comfortable accommodation for up to eight people across three cabins, featuring two heads and generous 6-foot headroom throughout. It’s equipped with a 40-litre holding tank and two 150-litre freshwater tanks, providing a total freshwater capacity of 300 litres, along with a 240v hot water immersion heater for added comfort.

The boat is well-equipped with navigation gear, including a Raymarine chart plotter, autopilot, depth gauge, speed/log, and windspeed indicator. With its spacious layout, safe and roomy cockpit, and impressive sailing performance, this Bavaria 40 is perfectly suited for family cruising or longer-distance adventures. A berth in Dover Marina is also available by separate negotiation.

Accommodation

The forepeak contains a double V-berth over 6 feet long, with a large standing area suitable for changing. Storage is provided throughout the cabin, including a hanging wardrobe, shelving, and under-berth compartments.

The en-suite heads are equipped with a sea toilet, sink, vanity unit, and shower, all set in a moulded white finish for easy maintenance. Hot water is supplied by a Calorifier system and a 240v immersion heater.

Aft of the forepeak, the saloon includes an offset forward passageway on the port side and a central drop-leaf table. A bench settee runs along the port side in front of the galley, while a U-shaped settee surrounds the table to starboard. Storage is ample, with overhead lockers and under-settee compartments on both sides.

The galley offers substantial storage and is fitted with a double stainless-steel sink with pressurised hot and cold water. Cooking facilities include a gimballed 2-burner gas stove with oven and grill, along with a countertop 12v fridge and additional storage for provisions.

To starboard at the aft end of the saloon is a full-sized forward-facing chart table with under-seat storage. Electrical switch panels and navigation instruments are within easy reach. The table includes a large chart locker, bosun's drawer, and further compartments for equipment and tools.

Aft of the chart table is the starboard aft cabin, with a double berth over 6 feet long and a standing area for changing. Storage includes shelving, hanging lockers, and an under-seat locker.

Opposite on the port side is the main heads compartment, featuring a sea toilet, sink, vanity unit, and a separate shower area, all in a moulded white finish for ease of cleaning.

Aft of this compartment is the port aft cabin, which mirrors the starboard side, offering a double berth over 6 feet long, a standing area, and multiple storage solutions including shelving, hanging lockers, and an under-seat locker.

This Bavaria 40 is fitted with two 150L freshwater tanks giving a combined 300-litre freshwater capacity, a 20L holding tank,  and an Eberspacher cabin heating system with outlets in the saloon, forepeak, and both aft cabins.

The companionway leads to a spacious aft cockpit designed to accommodate a full crew safely and comfortably under way, with ample space for outdoor dining or relaxing at anchor.

The wheel is mounted centrally at the rear of the cockpit, with a full-width bench seat for the helmsman. Engine and navigation controls are housed in the binnacle for easy access.

Mechanical and Rigging

Sails and Spars:

This Bavaria 40 has a Bermudan Masthead sloop rig, with a 2001 Selden aluminium deck stepped mast and boom, with stainless steel standing and running rigging. The yacht has a Furlex 300s furling headsail and an in-mast furling mainsail. All lines are led aft to the cockpit. The age of the standing and running rig is unknown.

Mechanical Systems:

This Bavaria 40 has a single, 2001 4-cylinder 50hp Volvo Penta MD22L diesel engine with Morse controls. This engine is powering a Sail drive with a 3-blade fixed propeller. The Sail drive diaphragm was last changed in June 2019, and the engine was last serviced in May 2024 by the owner.

This Volvo Penta MD22L is supplied by a 150-litre capacity HOPE fuel tank. The yacht will cruise at approximately 6 knots under engine and has a maximum speed of approximately 9 knots. 

Electrical Systems:

5 x 12v batteries (2 x 350Ah Domestic age unknown, 1 x Engine 2025, 1x 110Ah Anchor winch age unknown & 1 x 40Ah Bow thruster 2024) All batteries are charged from the engine alternator and a 240V battery charger, via the 240V shore power ring main system, which also has a hot water immersion heater attached.

History & Construction

This Bavaria 40 was built in 2001 by Bavaria Yachts in Germany, to a J & J design. The yacht has a white GRP hull and superstructure with non-slip decks. She benefits from a fin keel, wheel steering with a spade rudder, with a self-draining cockpit and anchor well. She was last out of the water in 2023 when the hull was polished, anodes changed, antifouled and re-antifouled.
