Built by Anderson, Rigden & Perkins, a company that made several working boats, including launches for the Royal Navy, Anderson produced the Anderson 22, and in fewer numbers, the Anderson 26. The Anderson 22 is a popular small yacht with good stability and reasonable performance considering the lift keel design. Apart from the obvious benefits, the lift keel also made the Anderson 22 a popular trailer-sailer. Designed by Oliver Lee around 1973, the Anderson 22 represented a move in Anderson's yard to smaller, leisure craft from their more commercial earlier craft and ship repair facilities that had been their main income since the company was founded in 1917.
