The Southerly 28 is an ideal yacht for cruising the East Coast. Ideal boat for sailing up the shallow estuaries and small creeks to quiet locations to drop anchor. The Southerly 28 is a spacious lift keel cruiser. It offers 5 berths in two cabins. It is being offered for sale in good condition. It has only had one previous owner to the current owner. the current owner has sailed her up and down the East Coast, across to France and Holland. Only being sold due to ill-health

Accommodation

The accommodation offers five berths in two cabins. In forward cabin, there is a single berth that converts to a double berth.  In saloon dinette to port converting to double. Galley to starboard with a Flavel two burner gimballed gas cooker with grill and oven, stainless-steel sink. Quarter berth to starboard, with separate heads compartment to port with marine toilet and washbasin. Upholstery finished in beige cloth with blue curtains.

Mechanical and Rigging

Mechanical  Systems:

Located under the cockpit 2003 Beta 20 D722 three-cylinder 20hp diesel engine (last serviced by the owner 2019). Electric start. Seawater cooled. Shaft drive to three bladed propeller. 100 litres fuel capacity giving approximately 350 miles range at 6 knots cruising speed. Maximum speed underpower 7 knots. Single lever control.


Sails and Rigging:

Masthead rigged Bermudian sloop. Anodised aluminium mast and boom by ZSpars.  Stainless steel standing rigging (2005). The mast is 3 foot longer than normal. Terylene running rigging (2013). Slab reefing mainsail with Packman. Furling headsail system.

History Construction:

This Southerly 28 was built by Southern Yacht Ltd in 1975. Black painted GRP hull with white decks with moulded-in non-slip surfaces. Cast iron deep lifting fin keel. Wheel steering to transom hung rudder. Stainless steel stanchions. Walk through transom gate. Currently ashore for viewing December 2019.

Broker Comments:

Owned by the current for the last 17 years only selling due to a change in personal circumstances, only sailed locally and across to France and Holland, he tells me that a couple of jobs that require attention are the lower pintle on the rudder and the teak around the bow require replacing.
