1978 Birchwood 33 for sale in Kent
The Birchwood 33 offers spacious accommodation for up to six people. With a practical layout and offering a large aft double cabin with en-suite heads she is ideal for families, cruising with friends or as a liveaboard. She twin engines with a range of navigational equipment making her the ideal boat for cruising the East Coast. This example is presented in good condition and is only being sold due to the owners health. A berth in Gillingham marina is available.
Accommodation
The Birchwood 33 makes a great family cruiser offering 6 berths in 3 cabins, it is great for a family where the parents want a bit of space from the kids, or for a couple looking to have guests aboard.
The aft cabin has the owner’s double berth and separate marine toilet compartment, the centre wheelhouse has nice high level seating along with the helm position. A replacement aft cabin window, as can be seen in the photos, is in the process of being fitted.
The main cabin has a dinette, convertible to a double berth, toilet compartment with marine toilet and a shower. The holding tank wand associated pipes have been removed but are available.
There is a well proportioned galley, equipped with a gas oven, grill and two ring hob, microwave and fridge with a freezer compartment that operates on gas, 12v battery and 240v shore power. Moving forwards there are generous V berths in the bows with two single berths that convert to a double, with plenty of storage.
Outside there are wide, safe side decks to make it easy to access the bows for deck work, and aft is a lovely high level deck area above the aft cabin where 6/7 people can sit out and enjoy the surroundings. Pressurised hot and cold water throughout. Water is heated via a gas multipoint heater. Carpeted and curtains throughout.

Mechanical Systems:
The Birchwood 33 is powered by twin 6 cylinder Ford naturally aspirated 80hp, inboard engines, The Port engine has 2777 hours and starboard has 2288 hours. Shaft drive to 2 three bladed bronze propellers. The boat will cruise at 10 knots and has a maximum speed of 15 knots. It has two 350 litre fuel tanks. The engines have been serviced by the owners friend who is a professional mechanic.
Electrical Systems:
3 x 12 volt batteries charging from the engine alternators, 1 x domestic and 2 x engine batteries charged by engine alternator and via a 240 volt battery charger. 240 volt ring main also installed.

Semi displacement
History and Construction:
The Birchwood 33 was produced between1973-82 designed Graham Caddick and built by Birchwood Boats. Cream GRP construction, cream painted non slip decks. Owned for the last 25 years by the current owner. Last surveyed in 1996.
The vessel was treated for osmosis in 2020 in Cardiff Marina. She was last out of the water in 2021 when she was antifouled, hull polished and anodes changed.
