Mechanical and Rigging

NETWORK YACHTBROKERS DOVER is pleased to present this Trawler Yacht undergoing refit. Up to three years ago she was still fishing and rigged for prawn out of Buckie and Lochinver. Her original name was the "Orcades BCK 97 ". Her previous skipper owned her for 20 years. She is Scottish built by George Thomson and Son of Buckie in 1969 and one of the last cruiser sterned timber boats to be built. Larch on Oak with massive frames and 3 inch hull planking ,even the deck planking is 2.5 inches thick. The hull is very tight with very little pumping required. Mechanically she is in excellent condition, eight years ago she had a new Kelvin TS8 engine /gearbox and stern gear , the engine is serviced every year with an oil change and all oil and fuel filters replaced, and has been checked over by a Kelvin engineer , the engine is also run at least twice a week and the batteries are always well charged. Also in the engine room is the main fuel tank which holds 1500 gallons of diesel ( approx 300 gallons at the moment). In the bow is a 300 gallon water tank. The second tank has been removed to give access from the main hold to the aft cabin. She has three battery banks ,the electrics are 24v and 110v.the engine has two alternators a large 110v and a 24v . Also a newish engine driven Desmo bilge and deckwash pump.Plus one automatic electric and two manual bilge pumps. Up in the wheelhouse the steering is power assisted hydraulic by Tenfjord , with a necco automatic pilot , Foruno radar , foruno full colour depth sounder, GPS, Sailor VHF + scrambler and radio telephone ,Epirb.Original brass roof mounted compass ,there is a second radar but this has a fault with the magnatron. The old galley has been stripped out to create a navigation/chart room, although there is still a supply of fresh water from the main tank to this area via an electric pump .There is also access from here to the aft accommadation and the engine room. The hold and forepeak has also been cleared of tons of old equipment, then all the iron deck beams needle gunned back to the bare metal and painted with anti-rust paint and the timber underside of the deck painted with anti fungal paint .The inside of the hull was cleaned and then coated in wood preservative to make ready for re lining in timber after the cabin partitions have been installed. The original crew quarters are still as originally built. The engine room has been cleared of all uneccessary equipment to make way for a proposed passage between hold and aft cabin , there is also extra space for a generator and more water tanks. Up on deck the entire wheelhouse structure has been stripped back to metal and painted with a marine anti rust paint (3 coats ) and then topcoated with marine grade gloss (2coats) The wheelhouse mast has been re painted and four new wire mast stays fitted. There are also new made navigation light boards to regulation size. The whale back and mast has had similar treatment to the wheelhouse. The deck is in the proccess of being stripped and repainted with anti-slip deck paint, it has also been re-caulked around all the bulwark timbers along both sides and the bulwarks scraped and repainted in gloss white. The external hull is still to be painted but is in sound condition. Away from the boat many hundreds of hours has been spent designing and drawing and building the scale plans and a scale model for the cabin layout and construction. All the cabin partitions are made and designed to fit through the main hatch and assembled in the hold with doors fitted and conduit and switch boxes built in for electrics. They also have paneling ready made and fitted for painting. All the cabin floor heights have also been determined to give good headroom with maximum floor area . This is an excellent chance to change your life and create a wonderful home in the most beautiful of environments.
