1981 Princess 38

Princess 38 a nice example of a spacious Princess flybridge cruiser. Six berths in 2 cabins, en-suite forward master cabin shower and wash hand basin. Second cabin twin berths with single heads. A 2019 survey report is available on request. This motorboat has developed some Osmotic blisters, hence the reduction in price

Accommodation

The Princess 38 offers 6 berths in 2 cabins. Forward is the owner’s cabin with a large island berth, large drawers for storage along with a wardrobe and full-length mirror. There is an escape hatch reading lights and a large floor space for dressing. Plenty of locker space. Off the dining area is the heads, which is of good size and includes a sea toilet, shower, hot and cold water, single sink and storage space. Walk in wet locker with hand basin and shower. Domestic water is heated by a calorifier and immersion heater. Opposite the dining area is the galley, which incorporates a microwave, fridge freezer and 2 sinks with mixer tap. The galley is of good size and is complimented with lots of storage space for food and crockery. The saloon has a good seating area with upholstery finished in cream this which converts into a double bed. The flooring is carpeted throughout. There is a large chart table and plenty of storage. The helm is located to the starboard side and has a full set if instrumentation including rudder indicator, water gauge and engine monitoring system. CD player/radio, TV. Eberspacher diesel fired cabin heating with controls located in the main saloon.

Mechanical Systems

Twin 1981 Ford Majestic Mermaid 180 hp six-cylinder turbo diesels (last serviced 2020). These are connected to shafts with three bladed propellers. Maximum speed is 20 knots and cruising speed of 16 knots. Fuel consumption at cruising speed is approx. 5 gallons per hour in total. Rope cutters on both shafts. Cutlass bearings changed 2019, last out of water maintenance 2020.

 

Electrical Systems

4 x 12-volt 120Ah (2020) batteries charging from the engine alternators, 12-volt battery charger, shore power connection with 240-volt ring main, and immersion heater.

History & Construction

1981 Princess 38 flybridge cruiser designed by John Bennett and built by Marine Projects of Plymouth. GRP Deep V hull and superstructure with teak interior. The steering is via cable to twin rudders. The 38 was based on the deep-vee hull version of the 37, but with a redesigned superstructure, the boat has a larger wheelhouse and saloon for evenings at anchor. White GRP hull and superstructure with moulded nonslip decks. This motorboat has developed some Osmotic blisters, hence the reduction in price.
